Historique :	commande vers 1932, alors qu'Antoine Gianelli, lauréat 1931 du Prix de la Guadeloupe, est chargé par le Gouverneur de la Guadeloupe de plusieurs commandes pour le décor des bâtiments officiels que l'architecte Ali Tur est en train de reconstruire après le passage du cyclone de 1928 ; période de production intense pour Gianelli ; travail avec son épouse Germaine Foury aux études préparatoires réalisées sur le motif, mais l'oeuvre finale a été peinte en atelier à Paris ; le 6 février 1934, l'évêque Mgr Genoud autorise la bénédiction des stations du Chemin de Croix, qui prend place sur les murs des collatéraux de la nouvelle église bénie le 4 décembre 1933.
