Historique :	Jules Honoré Coussin (1773-1836) greffier en chef à la cour d'appel de Basse-Terre, né à Pointe-à-Pitre a parcouru la Guadeloupe entre 1805 et 1835. Durant ce voyage, il aurait produit quelques 300 dessins. Sur les 123 faisant partie de la collection de la mairie (acquis en 1951), il n'en reste plus que 35.

Précision sur l'inscription :	Dessiné au pied des escarpemens encaissant le cours d'eau, appelé la Rivière aux Herbes, escarpemens qui ne sont pas très élevés, mais variés, pittoresques et pleins de jolis accidens de paysages. Cette vue a été prise en 1826 sur l'habitation de mon beaufrère, M. de Mac Carthy ; J. Coussin fecit ex natura ; Dans la rivière aux Herbes, sur l'Habitation Mac - Carthy ; Guadeloupe
